If you are the family member or partner of an Irish national and you would like to join them in Ireland, you can find out how to do this in the following pages. Different family members can apply to join an Irish national, including spouse, civil partner, de facto partner, minor child, dependent parent and dependent adult child (Only where they are dependent on the care of the parent sponsor for their subsistence due to a serious medical or psychological condition that makes independent life unsustainable). There is a separate application for each category of applicant and different conditions will apply.
Look below to see which category applies to you and then read more information about your eligibility to apply, what documents you will need to support your application and what you can and cannot do when you are in Ireland.
Please note that there is a policy document which gives detailed information about who can join which you should read carefully before making an application (This document applies to applications submitted on or after 26 November 2025. For applications submitted before that date, please see the previous policy document)
