Introduction
If you are the parent of an Irish citizen child you may be eligible for permission to remain in Ireland on this basis. All applications for permission to remain as the parent of an Irish citizen child are examined on a case-by-case basis.

How to apply
If you are the parent of an Irish citizen child you may be eligible for permission to remain in Ireland on this basis.
(a) If you have entered Ireland on a valid “D Reside Parent of an Irish Citizen child” visa, you must make an appointment with the Registration Office (Freephone 1800 800 630) and attend in the presence of your Irish child for the purpose of having this permission registered.
(b) If you have an existing permission which has been registered in the State i.e. (Stamp 1, 1A, 1G, 1H, 2, 2A, 3, 4) – you may renew this permission online.

(c) If you do not hold a valid immigration permission or if you are on a short stay ‘C’ visa, you must complete the parent of Irish citizen child application form and submit it, with all the required documentation to the following address:

Please note that incomplete application forms will not be processed and will be returned.
My application is approved. What next?
If you are successful, you will be granted a stamp 4 permission. Your permission will be for a duration of between 6 months and 3 years, depending on the circumstances of your individual case.
You must make an appointment with your local immigration office in order to register this permission. If you live in Counties Dublin, Kildare, Meath or Wicklow the registration office is at 13-14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 and you can make an appointment. If you live outside Dublin, Kildare, Meath or Wicklow you must contact your local registration office. You may have to pay a registration fee. You must bring your Irish citizen child with you when you are registering.
What happens if my application is refused?
We will advise you of the decision to refuse your permission in writing and the reasons for the refusal. There is no appeal process. You can re-apply for permission as the parent of an Irish citizen child at any time.
You should pay careful attention to the reasons why your previous application was refused. If you do not have another immigration permission, we may issue you with notification of an intention to deport you under Section 3 of the Immigration Act 1999.
